Tis the Season

Tis the Season of shopping
from black Friday not stopping
until Christmas Eve
When finally we breathe
And we muse,  "Oh Joy"
What a deal on that last toy.

One last time we check our mail
But sadly to no avail,
Dear friends from Atlanta
Forgot about Santa
And no gifts from them arrive...
Oh dear, we forgot cousin Clive!

Will what we bought be enough?
Will the turkey be tough?
Will I gain five pounds, maybe eight?
Must I wear the sweater I hate?
All these questions we ponder
But seldom stop to wonder.....

At the wonder of HIS birth
The whole reason for myrth
Why we even buy gifts
Why we even make lists
Why the 25th is special - a holiday
Maybe I should take a moment and pray

Father in heaven,  thank You for,
the money I have to go to the store,
For all of my family - near and far,
Even ones not sending a card.
For sending your Son
to be the One
Who came on Christmas morn' .....
A Savior is born!

Merry Christmas Season!
Enjoy the shopping and parties and time with family and friends!
I'm just trying to remember the true reason behind why I do all this extra stuff in the first place!
(So I keep my priorities straight ... and keep my sanity!)

  1. Hi Britt! I've been a long time reader of Kari's blog. So I'm cruising around her lists of blogs. I like what I read here, you being honest, being you and that you are a woman after God's heart.

My favorite tradition for us is having homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas Day!

  2. Realizing that Christmas for us is different EVERY year because we're traveling to see family. So while we don't have a lot of our own traditions at the moment, we're thankful for the opportunities we have to travel to see family...

This year we all (both sides of our families) decided not to do a lot of gifts...so thankfully we are enjoying the decorations, the visits and meditating on Christ...oh yeah, and getting Chris through finals!

    Enjoying your blog :)

  3. Welcome, Ping!
Nice to meet you :) I see that if we ever meet, we will have to share a (huge) cinnamon roll! I am going to attempt making "Mom's" cinnamon rolls this Christmas break with the kids.

  4. Kate-
Soooo, a tradition for you would be traveling?!? :)
Good thing about being back in school is that at least Chris will have a nice long break, right?

  5. we have a tradition of putting the tree up the sunday after thanksgiving (although the past 2 years it's been a different day). during the day i have chili in the crock pot and when the tree is all put up, we turn off all the lights, and enjoy the chili with christmas lights and music. this year we added in watching a christmas movie to watch. we're also starting a new tradition with a "Jesse Tree." I made it out of felt at a mom's bible study here (at an english church) and i'm really excited to do it with Renae and Sammy as they get older. It's basically an advent calendar if you haven't heard of it. another tradition was eating lots ot chocolate at christmas time :)

  6. J and J -
Love the chili idea on tree day. (We stole it this year!)
Sorry for the loss of your chocolate tradition. :( Chin up - time flies and you can reinstate it next year :) (or maybe you'll lose your taste for the stuff???? - just thought you might need a laugh)
